Strange creatures from the oven & amp; quot; Three Dragons & amp; quot;

Suspicious creations ...

Today I want to tell you about the amazing master of ceramics Eva Funderburgh.

As a child, Eva dreamed of becoming a marine biologist and doing rescue turtles. However, after she moved from Kansas to Pittsburgh, she thought about art. It was not clear how this was connected with the move, but the facts are as follows.

As a result, she entered the Art College, where she began to study chemistry and sculpture. At the end of her studies, she decided to focus on ceramics.

In her work, Eva uses a very interesting firing technique - in the furnace of "Three Dragons".
The Three Dragons stove is a type of Anagama Japanese tradition

The essence of the process is as follows: eight or nine ceramist masters gather and leave, approximately for a week, to a special furnace.

Next, their task for about 110 hours to throw wood in the furnace during firing. The oven itself looks like a tunnel with a firebox at one end and a pipe with the opposite.

During roasting the temperature reaches thousands of degrees Celsius.

After only a few days, the oven can be opened. Take a look, this is an accelerated procedure for the extraction of products many times.
It turns out unpredictable, but amazing effect.

This feature of roasting was discovered by the ancient Chinese, and the Japanese improved it. Now, on the North-West coast of the Pacific Ocean, Eva and her colleagues are trying to revive this technique with their masters.

And finally, a video about how Eve sculpts her teeth for one of her wonderful creatures.
