Huge Scarlet Living Carpet
Cuba, April 25, 2017. Every year, after the first spring rains, millions of red, yellow and black crabs march for several days from the surrounding forests to a bay on the southern coast of Cuba. They go to spawn in the sea. This is the “season of crabs” - the first stage of the migration of the red crab, when the female and male individuals meet together.
During the second stage of migration, they mate, and this annual natural event ends with the third stage — the campaign of the females of the red crab to the sea to lay eggs and return to the forest.
This is a true nature show, attracting many tourists every year. Millions of red, purple and scarlet crabs leave their caves and slowly go to the sea.
The roads of Guanaacabibes National Park in Cuba look like a huge moving scarlet carpet. At the time of the migration of crabs on the peninsula there are restrictions for transport, whose owners must move with caution, since hundreds of sea creatures can get under the wheels at once.
